When IE9 and the PDF-XChange IE Addin are used to create PDF files, they are not always text-selectable.
There is a rendering option for some pages in IE9 that means rendered pages are not text-selectable.
The HTML source code of the relevant page can verify whether or not the rendering option detailed above is the cause of the issue. If the source code contains a tag that includes the string:
"content="IE=9"
Then modified rendering will be used for the page. Unfortunately, it is not possible to change the manner in which pages are rendered, and therefore the IE Addin will create PDFs in which text selection is not possible. Web pages can still be printed in the standard manner:
1. Open the web page in Internet Explorer, then press F10 to open the Menu Toolbar.
2. Click File and then click Print.
3. Select the desired printer and then click the Print button to print the document.
However, the print capabilities of Internet Explorer will manage the layout for the pages, and then may not appear as they do in the browser. The printing preferences in IE need to be adjusted in order to resolve this issue. For example, the Print Preview options can be used to include background colors and images:
1. Open the web page in Internet Explorer, then press F10 to open the Menu Toolbar.
2. Click File and then click Page Setup. The Page Setup dialog box will open:
3. Ensure the Print Background Colors and Images box is selected.
Printed pages will then appear more similar to the original page than those that the default IE print settings create.
