How do I manage OCR language packs in PDF-XChange?

Answer:

Since Versions 9, We now make use of the Tesseract (Default) OCR and the ABBYY FineReader “Enhanced OCR” engines. These two engines have independent language files/categories. We have also simplified the installation and removal process in these versions, all actions can be performed via the Editor or PDF-Tools Application UI. Note that OCR data files are also stored in a common directory now, meaning that installing a language for the Editor, will directly make it available to a PDF-tools license using the same engine.

To install or remove language files from either engine, simply open the “OCR Pages” tool or action, and click the “Add/Update languages” button. In the window that appears, “Check” any languages you wish to install, and “uncheck” any you wish to remove. Those which are unchanged will remain installed or not installed when you click “proceed”.

For the Advanced Users or System administrators who wish to share the installed language files on numerous devices, without needing to download the files separately on each device, the language files are located in the “common” directory.

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Tracker Software

IMPORTANT: Copy the entire “Tracker Software” folder, and all subfolders. DO NOT copy individual folders for this purpose, as the language files are spread across this directory and “target copying” is very difficult. Copying only one of the subfolders or language files can have adverse effects on your OCR capabilities and should be avoided.
