I have been asked by the PDF XChange Support team to export a registry key for investigation. How do I do this?
PDF XChange will supply the Path which we need you to export, this ensures that we see only the key(s) we need. The path will look similar to this:
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Tracker Software\PDFXEditor\3.0\settings
1. Open Regedit.exe within Windows by opening your start menu and typing Regedit.exe, then press Enter.
The Regedit window will open (you may need to provide administrative authentication)
Copy the path we have sent you and paste it into the address bar at the top, then press Enter.
2. The key (folder) that we need will be slightly highlighted, right click on it and select Export:
The windows Export Registry File window will open, please name the file as instructed by the PDF XChange support team (usually the name of the key) save the file to a location where you can easily access it (such as your desktop).
3. Locate the file and change the extension from .reg to something like .RenameMeToDotReg
This is important as most clients will block registry keys when you try to send them via email, and we will never see the file.
-->
**Note, If you do not see the .reg at the end of the original file, This is because Windows is set to hide known file extensions.
a) To make these visible, open a Windows File Explorer window and click File > Change Folder and Search Options.
b) In the resulting window, on the View tab, find and uncheck the "Hide extensions for known file types" checkbox.
Then click Apply and close this window.
c) You should now be able to proceed with step 3
4. Now that the file has been renamed, you should be able to safely attach it to a reply email directed to support@pdf-xchange.com.
